Karen Nussbaum, MS, PT graduated in 1999 from Ithaca College with a Master’s of Science degree in Physical Therapy and has 24 years of experience working in the fields of pediatrics and sports medicine. Karen has embarked on a lifelong journey of learning and wellness that has deepened her understanding of movement and has adopted the philosophy that achieving good health means that the whole being, body, mind and spirit, must be addressed. In her pursuit of strength, balance, and inner harmony Karen has received the following certifications: Yoga (Hatha and Kundalini), Pilates (mat and equipment), Reiki Master, Spiritual Psychology, Aromatherapy, Myofascial Release, and Sensory Integration.
Karen is an avid athlete and has completed several Olympic distance triathlons, Century bike rides, performed with a dance company, and continues to pursue new adventures. As a result of a ski injury, she underwent an ACL (a cruciate ligament of the knee) repair in June 1997. The graft failed and underwent an emergency operation in November 1997 for a revision of the ACL repair. This time the graft was taken from her healthy knee. She rehabilitated from double knee surgery with physical therapy, yoga, and Pilates and has returned to an active lifestyle, including skiing.
As a result of her injuries and continued passion for understanding the human body and psyche, Karen has the ability to break down anatomy, movement and compensatory patterns in a manner that is simple and easy to understand.
Karen provided physical therapy in the NYC and Philadelphia School Districts, and works with families to improve function and skill acquisition for children with orthopedic impairments, autism and developmental delays.
Karen offers one to one treatment sessions designed for both adults and children using an eclectic blend of Pilates, Yoga, Manual Therapy, Sports Conditioning, Spiritual Counseling, and Aromatherapy to obtain balance of mind, body and spirit to return to professional and recreational activities and enjoyment of life.
